چکیده

Multicasting has become increasingly important with the emergence of Internet-based applications such IP telephony, audio/video conferencing, distributed databases and software upgrading. IP Multicasting is an efficient way to distribute information from a single source to multiple destinations at different locations. In practice IP is considered as a layer 3 protocol. Multiprotocol label Switching (MPLS) replaces the IP forwarding by a simple label lookup. MPLS combines the flexibility of layer 3 routing and layer 2 switching. In this paper, we present a new fair share policy (FSP) that implements Differentiated Services to solve the problems of QoS and congestion control when multicasting is used. Analysis tools are used to evaluate our new fair share policy (FSP) for different scenarios. The results should provide insights for the comparisons between IP multicast in MPLS networks using FSP and plain IP multicasting using the same policy when DiffServ are adopted. Key-Words: Multicast, IP, MPLS, DiffServ, QoS.

Routing Optimization in IP/MPLS Networks under Per-Class Over-Provisioning Constraints

MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) and DiffServ (Differentiated Services) provide means to implement various QoS types in IP networks. While MPLS enhances the classical IP networks by supporting efficient connection control through explicit label-switched paths (LSPs), DiffServ allows differentiated QoS parameters commitments to be supported on the same IP backbone for different classes of s...

Differentiated Services and Integrated Services Use of MPLS

All the new emerging QoS service architectures are motivated by the desire to improve the overall performance of IP networks. Integrated Services (Intserv), Differentiated Services (Diffserv), MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) and constraint-based routing are all technologies starting to coexist together in today’s Internet to provide means for the delivery of end-to-end QoS to applications ...

QoS Comparison for DiffServ over Heterogeneous MPLS Multicast Networks : A Simulation Study

In order to provide QoS in group communications for real time applications such as video conferencing, reliable multicasting is used. Miscellaneous efforts have been undertaken to provide reliability on top of IP multicast. In this paper, we present a new fair share policy (FSP) that utilizes Differentiated Services to solve the problems of QoS and congestion control when reliable FEC/ARQ multi...

A new traffic engineering manager for DiffServ/MPLS networks: design and implementation on an IP QoS Testbed

In a multi-service network, different applications have varying QoS requirements. The IETF has proposed the DiffServ architecture as a scalable solution to provide Quality of Service (QoS) in IP Networks. In order to provide quantitative guarantees and optimization of transmission resources, DiffServ mechanisms should be complemented with efficient traffic engineering (TE) mechanisms, which ope...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....
